NV26 Readiness: 352d SOW Integrates with NATO Allies in Iceland
Air Commandos performed successful tests of theGrasshopper Autonomous Resupply System and mastered austere subarctic low-level flight profiles ultimately reinforcing multinational NATO interoperability across the High North.
“We are very proud of our ability to sustain a Joint and Allied force that operates far beyond normal supply lines,” said the 352 SOW mission commander. “Food, water, medicine, and fuel were all delivered through non-traditional methods reducing the risk to force considerably in the event of contingency operations in the High North.”
A major key to success during NV26 was the ability to rapidly and successfully employ long-range power projection and non-standard aerial delivery despite rapid tactical turnaround timelines.
“Being able to validate a lot of emerging capabilities and continue to refine additional tactics, techniques and procedures, alongside our partners and Allies in the region, is a huge win for the entire team,” the 352 SOW mission commander continued. “Exercise Northern Viking was a key step in making special operations aviation more lethal, agile and ultimately more relevant in an area traditionally dominated by maritime forces. The lessons learned here can be translated to any region across the globe that holds extreme strategic value but with limited logistical footprints.”
Operating alongside joint U.S. forces and NATO Allies, the 352 SOW evaluated emerging non-standard airdrop platforms to sustain isolated ground units throughout the exercise.
“Northern Viking offers us the amazing opportunity to operate the way special operation forces are intended to,” said the 352 SOW mission commander. “While the exercise’s conventional forces operated using the established infrastructure, we deployed a very small contingent of aircrew, maintainers, and SOF enablers and embedded ourselves in a location where we relied strictly on our own organic capabilities with support from the local community.”
By successfully executing these diverse mission sets under austere conditions, the 352d SOW validated its tactical adaptability while solidifying the collective defense posture of forces.
